Frequently asked questions

Solar permit service questions.

What is included in a solar permit package?

Qualifying standard packages include plan design, normal plan-check corrections within scope, permit processing, applicable placards and labels, approved-plan pickup when required, and overnight delivery.

Can I use SPS for solar design only?

Yes. SPS can prepare the solar permit plan set for your team to review and use in its own permitting process.

Can SPS run a permit if my plans are complete?

Yes. Permit-running and jurisdiction-coordination services can be ordered separately from design.

Does SPS handle plan-check corrections?

Yes—for plan sets prepared by SPS, we coordinate applicable plan-check corrections and resubmittals within the agreed scope. SPS does not revise plan sets prepared by another designer.

Does SPS process NEM and utility applications?

Yes, for supported Southern California utilities. Utility and NEM/interconnection work is separate from the standard permit package.

How long does solar permit approval take?

Design turnaround and jurisdiction approval are different timelines. SPS will explain the expected design timing, while approval timing depends on the reviewing jurisdiction and project requirements.

Does the $300 permit package include utility or NEM applications?

No. Utility, NEM, and interconnection application processing is separate from the standard permit package. Supported Southern California utility applications start at $60.

What types of projects may cost more than the $300 starting price?

Larger or more complex projects, commercial systems, ground mounts, battery-storage projects, service upgrades, engineering requirements, additional jurisdiction or agency submissions, extensive revisions, specialty equipment, and other expanded-scope work may require additional pricing. SPS confirms applicable scope and pricing before work begins.

Does Solar Permit Specialists work in jurisdictions outside California?

Yes. SPS has completed hundreds of projects outside California across approximately 15 states, and we can generally support solar permitting projects in most other states. Contact us with the project location and scope so we can confirm coverage and local requirements.

* Pricing & scope notes

Permit packages start at $300 for qualifying standard projects submitted through one permitting jurisdiction. Supported Southern California utility applications start at $60 and are priced separately. Larger or more complex projects, commercial work, ground mounts, battery systems, service upgrades, engineering, revisions outside normal scope, specialty equipment, and other expanded-scope work may require additional pricing. If a project requires a separate submission to an additional jurisdiction or agency, an additional processing fee may apply. Multiple departments or reviews that are part of one jurisdiction’s normal permit process are treated as one application process. SPS confirms applicable scope and pricing before work begins.
